Farm Manager

Job Title: Farm Manager
Reports to: CEO
Type of position: Full-time
OBJECTIVE/JOB PURPOSE :
Provide leadership expertise in providing efficient farm management services so as to contribute to achieving the Group’s strategy, growth and profit objectives.
Job Summary
This position is responsible for management, planning and control of company’s farming operations from land prep through quality harvest.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
                             1.  planning finances and production to maintain farm progress against budget parameters;
2.       supervising practical farm activities, e.g. driving tractors, operating machinery, feeding livestock, spraying fields, etc;
3.       marketing the farm's products;
4.       buying supplies, such as fertilizer and seeds;
5.       arranging the maintenance and repair of farm buildings, machinery and equipment;
6.       planning activities for trainee staff, mentoring and monitoring them;
7.       maintaining and monitoring the quality of yield, whether livestock or arable crops;
8.       understanding the implications of the weather and making contingency plans;
9.       making sure that products are ready for deadlines, such as auctions and markets;
10.    ensuring that farm activities comply with government regulations;
11.    monitoring animal health and welfare;
12.    maintaining a knowledge of pests and diseases and an understanding of how they spread and how to treat them;
13.    applying health and safety standards across the farm estate;
14.    monitoring and documenting all yields and land use to meet funding requirements;
15.    protecting the environment and maintaining biodiversity;
16.    keeping financial records up to date.
AUTHORITY AND INDEPENDENCE
The A Farm Manager has full authority delegated by the Chief Executive - as per the requirements, duties and responsibility of the job.
WORK CONDITIONS
   Work normal working hours but may be required to do some work in evening or on off time

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
   Degree or relevant qualification in Agriculture or a related discipline
•    6-10 years’ working experience in a related function with at least 5 years at a
Managerial level.
   Relevant qualification in Agronomy.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
   Excellent knowledge of farm management and agricultural methods and 
      
understanding conditions with regards to crop management.
   Strong team management, supervisory and motivational skills
   Strong interpersonal skills
   Innovative and creative
   Results oriented
   Strong project management skills
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Travels outside the office is required with respect to making farms visits, market visits,trainings etc
The jobholder is on call and is regularly required to work overtime and weekends incase needed.
